MANLY U 14 HAROLD MOORE SHIELD DCA ROUND 5 MATCH REPORT
Sunday 18 November 2018 at Curtis Park
Northern Districts 81 bowled out in 36.3 overs (M May 3/18, S Bush 2/8, L Emery 1/11, W Marks 1/22, T Seward 1-6 and R Lynch 1-7) defeated by Manly 1/83 off 18.2 overs (J Cooper 46 no, B O’Brien 24).
Northern Districts won the toss and elected to bat on a reasonable outfield. The menacing pace of Seb Bush and Milo May had the Northern Districts top order edgy in the first 10 overs, leaving them 4/17, including a great run out thanks to Ryan Lynch, 2 catches to keeper Toby Mallon and a flying catch from Billy O’Brien in the slips. Luke Emery and Will Marks then kept the pressure on with both taking wickets. Ryan, Keelan Mendel, Joey Braund and Toby Seward bowled tight under 2 an over with Ryan and Toby taking a wicket each. With the score at 7-68, the furious opening bowling attack of Milo and Seb returned and cleaned up the tail, including a sensational diving catch from Toby M diving across Marcus Campbell at first slip to take a one handed screamer. Northern Districts were all bowled out for 81 in the 37th over. Billy O’Brien and keeper Toby Mallon both taking 3 catches each.
Faced with chasing 82, Billy O’Brien and Josh Cooper opened the batting positively. Josh and Billy’s goal was to reach the 50 run partnership as ordered by coach Blake Scheffers and they did. They put on a respectable 65 for the opening stand before Billy was caught at slip for 24. Joey Braund then came to the crease with an elevation up the batting order and batted with intent finishing with 5 off 6 balls (not out). Josh finished up on 46 not out, with the team reaching 1-83 off 18.2 overs.
Altogether this was a great all round team effort leaving Manly to beat North Shore in a do or die game next week if they want to make the semis. Congratulations boys!
