U13 DCA Mollie Dive Girls Round 5 vs North Shore + Season Wrap
Date of Event : Fri Nov 16, 2018 2:02PM

Manly 9/93 off 30 Overs (L Ryals 20, E Henry 14, E Horstead 10, A Karcher 10no) defeated by North Shore 3/94 off 25 overs (C Osborne 2/12, E James 1/12)

Back home at Griffith Park for Round 5, we had our local derby against North Shore, and given both teams were on top of the pool along with one other we knew it was a must win game for a place in the Semi Finals.  After winning the toss and electing to bat we were feeling confident, relaxed and ready to go.

Today’s batting proved to be tough going, we knew the conditions were challenging as the grass was long, finding runs along the ground was almost not an option.  Our openers fought hard, during the first 10 overs as they managed to get the score to 21, they then accelerated the scoring to 6 an over for the next 4 overs before we lost our first wicket in the 14th with the score on 1/46, a great partnership and highest for our openers this season.  Unfortunately wickets kept falling and it wasn’t until our 7thwicket partnership between Eliza Henry (10) and Ashleigh Karcher (10no) that we were able to provide some resistance.  Their partnership of 30 was much needed.  Manly closing the innings after 30 overs at 9/93.

Confident at the lunch break that we could defend the low score, knowing early wickets would be the key.  Opening bowler Chloe Osborne (2/12) did not disappoint taking a wicket in her first over and then another in her second. North Shore were 2/10, Manly having the start they had wanted.  Unfortunately it wasn’t until the 13th over before our next wicket, after Ellie James (1/12) was brought into the attack collecting a wicket with her first ball, North Shore nicely placed at 3/40.

At drinks North Shore were 3/50, in comparison Manly were 2/46 – we weren’t that far away.  Unfortunately as the afternoon progressed we witness some very classy batting by the North Shore girls as they chased down our runs in the 25th over.  Manly’s season had come to an end.

Unfortunately our season was a little shorter than we had hoped for but that is sport.  Having formed a new team around a core of girls that played Mollie Dive for the last two season, success for the 2018/19 team is not just measured by game results / overall  position, but more personal development, commitment and most importantly enjoyment, and in these areas the girls have excelled.

The cricket displayed was at a very high standard, and there were still so many achievements that we are all proud of, especially:

-       Highest Mollie Dive Score Ever by Manly

-       Best Ever Mollie Dive Bowling Figures by Manly and 4th overall in competition (since 2009/10)

-       Highest second wicket partnerships for Mollie Dive Manly Team

-          Highest third wicket partnerships for Mollie Dive Manly Team

-          Highest seventh wicket partnerships for Mollie Dive Manly Team

Well done to our leading run Scorers:

-          Chloe Osborne with 143 runs @ 47.7

-          Lulu Ryals with 81 runs @ 20.2

-          Kate Salmon with 78 runs @ 19.5

And to our leading wicket takers:

-          Ellie James with 8 wickets @ 5.6

-          Maya Nicey with 7 wickets @ 8.4

-          Chloe Osborne with 5 wickets @ 9.6

The girls had fun and formed some wonderful friendships, we look forward to supporting the rest of the Manly teams this coming weekend.

On behalf of the girls thanks to everyone for your support!
