Manly 9/130 lost to South Eastern 2/132
James BUCHANAN 28, Ky BROOME 27, Lachlan JOHNSON 17n.o.
Toby COUSEMACKER 1/12 (7 overs), Raja GANESHRAJ 1/25 (6 overs) Joel DAVIES 0/26 (10 overs)
Round four the boys are pitted against their old mates the Patterson’s and we travel Kensington. Joel won the toss and wisely selected to bat. The pitch was low and slow, the outfield was spongy, runs had to come. Credit to the South Eastern bowling that was tight and accurate. Ky continued his good for with a hard-fought opening knock of 27. James dug deep to give us a chance and worked hard for 28 working with Tom to get us going. Unfortunately, a number of boys did not play the pitch conditions and got out to cross bat shots which normally would have been the correct shot but not on this pitch. Lachie finished off the innings with a valuable 17n.o. to gives us a total to bowl at.
Tight bowling and energy in the field was needed to defend 130. Toby bowled tight only going for 12 of his 7 over which included 3 maidens. Joel also bowling tight only going to 26 of 10 overs. Raja again asked questions of the batsmen and was rewarded with a smart wicket. The South Eastern boys obviously learnt from our mistakes and batted in a manner needed for the pitch and deservedly won the match.
Post game debrief at the local with Patto’s softened the loss.
Unfortunately for the first time in these boys representative cricket careers, no quarterfinals. One match to go, lets finish on a high with a strong win.
