Manly 1/19 off 2 overs (Ellie James 8) defeated Hornsby Ku-ring-gai 10/18 off 15 overs (Kate Salmon 1/5, Chloe Osborne 1/5, Caitlin du Preez 1/2 Maya Nicey 3/3, Lulu Ryals 3/3)
Unfortunately, Manly lost the toss and Hornsby Ku-ring-gai decided to bat first.
Kate Salmon (4-1-1-5) and Chloe Osborne (4-2-1-5) opened the bowling with good line and length and kept the runs down while removing the openers. Maya Nicey executed a good under arm run out to have Hornsby 3/10 off 8 overs after their spells.
A bowling change brought Caitlin du Preez (3-1-1-2) into the attack and she promptly claimed her first rep cricket wicket – congratulations Caitlin. With Maya Nicey (3-1-3-3) coming on at the other end she quickly had 3 wickets of her own with catches to wicket keeper Ruby Gruber and Chloe. Chloe then threw the ball to Lulu Ryals (1-0-3-3) who cleaned up the tail bowling gun barrel straight claiming 2 x Lbw’s and a bowled.
Hornsby all out in 59 minutes.
A bit early for lunch so Manly went out to bat after the 10 minute break. Sisters Ellie James (8) and Jazzy James (1*) were asked to open the batting (great photo opportunity). Ellie was in a rush and dispatched 2 of the first 3 balls to the boundary before going for one shot to many and was bowled for 8. Jazzy was then joined at the crease by Ashleigh Karcher (1*) who was soon off the mark. Jazzy then hit the winning run and opened her rep cricket run account – well done Jazzy. However, that was to be it as Manly passed Hornsby’s total after 2 overs.
A big game next week for the girls against North Shore with the winner to progress to the semi final.
