GYG Man of the Match: Zac Wishart

With another loss at an away toss, the boys were sent in to field on a beautifully manicured Curagul Field in North Turramurra. After a solid warm-up, a lathering of suncream & confirmation that the opposition was in fact the Hornsby 14's and not an U18 side, the boys took to the field knowing it would be a match won on singles due to the spongy outfield.

Manly set a tight field and with perfect line and length by opening bowling pair Zac Wishart and Hurshwin Sharma, Hornsby were struggling at 2/7 after 10 overs, with 7 maidens!  The first bowling change brought Sam Debien and Jasper Straetemans into the mix and our bowling attack continued to impress the coaches and despite not taking a wicket in these next 10 overs, Hornsby only had 25 runs on the board.  A great start and the Manly boys were clearly enjoying their cricket supporting each other and communicating well.  With the Hornsby opener still at the crease and under instruction to start hitting some boundaries it was time for Jimmy Downs and Finlay Marks to strut their stuff on the pitch and our left arm / leg spin combo got their scalp with Marks snagging the opener, now 3/53 after 30.

In comes the Hornsby middle order having passed his ID check and ready to hit some boundaries and it was clear from his first over that there would be no hit and run for quick singles. With reliable & accurate sharp fielding from match stand-in Kuan Brown, risking a slow single wasn't on the cards.

After some confusion from the umpire on the over count and a short delay to reconcile we finished the 50 overs and headed over to a very impressive buffet strategically piling our plates with salad &  fruit leaving donuts & timtams for the Hornsby boys to enjoy. A relaxing lunch with a target of 125 for a win in the arvo session.

The opening batting pair of Jack Reilly & Hayden Calvert knew the stats - we needed 2-3 runs an over and no silly play or calls. They were off to a fantastic start until Reilly fell LBW with the score 1/19 after 9. Enter Jack Chick who was quickly off the mark showing the opposition how to run singles and hit a few boundaries on a spongy outfield. With Calvert at the other end, they put on a 93 run partnership each reaching their 50 before deciding to share the love.

Ben Eady and Jackson Griffiths were now at the crease needing 8 for a win and it was only a few mins until Eady had hit the winning runs.

Manly 3/127 in the 35th over with a well-earned early celebration. None partied harder than team mascot Chewie who was orphaned at the ground, but reunited with family later that evening after a fur raising encounter in a blue ute.

Well done boys and congratulations to Zac Wishart for his superb bowling taking out the GYG Manly MOM award.
Thanks to the coaches, manager, scorer, parents and grandparents for their support.
