Match Report by Noah Sturzaker With a solid 9-wicket win Manly trounced Northern Districts and opened up a doorway to the finals.
It was 40 degrees up in Northern Districts and Mitchell McGrath won the toss again and elected to bowl.
Straight away Kai Connors got the start Manly wanted by smashing down the leg-stump in the third over. But then Northern District put on a 2ndwicket partnership, just barely ticking the score over. Though Manly bowled well, the edges kept flying over slips or past slips and the first four catches were dropped. Then, finally Will Pavely got the breakthrough when he held on to a high caught and bowled. Mason Ballard then knocked over the middle-stump of another Northern Districts batssman and when Will Pavely took another, all of a sudden Northern Districts were 4-20.
Cameron Frost then turned the game on its head (like the pun?). He grabbed four quick wickets and bowled like Shane Warne. He spun every ball like a top, and the Northern Districts couldn’t cope.
Frost, couldn’t help being in the spotlight. He completed a run-out as well. It was a good bit of work and he hit the stumps directly. In the midst of Cameron Frost’s brilliant spell, Mitchell McGrath bowled exceptionally and bowled the batsman with a perfect line and length ball.
Manly needed one more wicket and had a lot of overs to get it. Unfortunately, they didn’t get it until the last ball. By that time Northern Districts had scored 78.
Manly made short work of the low total. Cooper and Toll scored 32 and 23 respectively, and Toby Mallon added 6 to the total before the target was reached. Straight away, both sides rushed off the ground to get away from the sweltering heat.
